CareerXroads and Vinnie B:

The 1st Mystery Job Seeker

With the help of 25 out-of-work human resource executives - members of the Princeton HR Network Group run by Dick Stone since 1990 - we (Gerry and Mark) applied online to every one of the 500 public firms on Fortune Magazine’s 2003 list as "Vinnie Boombotz". We were in search of the perfect online job-seeking experience, a sort of "Cook’s Tour" for the out-of-work or, soon-to-be-out-of-work set. While our volunteers stuffed corporate databases and reported their experiences back to us, we personally examined each of the 500 sites using a checklist for three dimensions we believe influence the job seekers’ experience (customer awareness, navigation and communication). Read on to find out what we all discovered... and how people have been reacting to Vinnie.
