Kendall Park, NJ, February 27, 2008 – CareerXroads releases its 7th Annual Sources of Hire Study, a snapshot of how large, highly-competitive, high-profile firms maintain and track their SOH data. Why is this important? Monitoring the sources of actual hires tells companies where to dedicate their hiring resources and tells job seekers where to direct their efforts.

Who completed the survey?

• 49 firms completed the CareerXroads Source of Hire survey and met our requirements.
• These firms have 1,010,000 employees; and,
• Their staffing functions filled 303,000 openings during 2007.
• They represent a cross-section of highly recognizable retail, technology, transportation, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and finance firms.

What did the data reveal?

A few highlights of the findings:

• 30% of open positions were filled by internal movement – companies are investing more in employees and offering more opportunities for career development.
• It pays to know someone. 28% of all external hires were made based on referrals.
• Hires attributed to Job Boards (including the Company site as a job board) represent 25% of external hires. Guess how many hires were made from traditional print sources? Less than 5%.
